We have a thriving community of artists and craftspeople in Pirongia and there are many ways you can view what they have been producing. Undoubtedly the best selection of local and not-so-local craftwork is on display every year at our annual Pirongia Craft Day, usually held in September. People come in their thousands from far and wide to this iconic event, which is a highlight of the Pirongia year. For more information on the Craft Day see our Regular Events page. Below is a selection of photos taken at our Annual Craft Fair to whet your appetite.

Pictured left is the Pirongia Village Craft Shop which carries a good selection of local arts and crafts all year round, many displaying that special local flavour which can so vividly evoke happy memories of a visit, in a way so much more real and satisfying than mass-produced souvenirs.

The Pirongia Trails Brochure. . .
contains information about galleries and workshops around the area, where work is on display. (It also contains alot of other useful information.)
This brochure available here now in .pdf format for your convenience, so you can print it off and make full use of it to explore our local arts and crafts community in full depth.

Mountain Paintings
For a great selection of wonderful paintings of our mountain and its wildlife, mostly by local artists, you can't go past the annual Pirongia Art Awards, organised by the Mt Pirongia Restoration Society to raise funds for the protection and conservation of our mountain and its flora and fauna. The Society has all the paintings and entries for this prestigious contest on show all the time on their web site here.

Nynke Piebenga - Weaving Studio
"I have been weaving for many years, and teach weaving at a national level. I just love working with fibre, and enjoy the challenge of stretching to possibilities of loom weaving. Loom weaving has restrictions, just because of the number of shafts, and the loom width one has available. I enjoy the design part (which can take as long as the actual weaving) but I also enjoy the rhythm of the weaving itself. Being involved in 'Creative Fibre' at a National level, and a member of the 'Professional Weaver's Network' (PWN) offers great opportunities of mixing with other fibre artists, and be inspired by each others work."
